“Do you want to see the court overturn Roe v. Wade?” asked Chris Wallace to Republican Nominee Donald Trump during the final 2016 Presidential Debate. “If we put another two, or perhaps three justices on, that will happen,” Trump responded.

Recently, we saw the appointment of yet another conservative Supreme Court Justice with Brett Kavanaugh, but it is not just the Supreme Court where President Trump is forwarding the pro-life cause.

On June 3, Diane Foley was appointed to be the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Deputy Assistant Secretary for Population Affairs. She formerly ran Life Network, a pro-life pregnancy resource organization, and was an OB-GYN. She now has many responsibilities, including overseeing the Title X family planning funds.

Title X funds account for over $60 million of Planned Parenthood’s federal funding each year. Thankfully, regulations were proposed in May to block these funds from making it into the hands of Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers.

On May 15, Donald Trump attended a gala fundraiser for Susan B. Anthony List. He was introduced by the organization’s president Marjorie Dannenfelser as "the most pro-life president in history." At the gala, he announced the new proposed regulation to defund Planned Parenthood.

Under current regulations, Title X allows clinics to refer patients to abortion providers upon request, but HHS said in the new proposed regulation this provision is inconsistent with other aspects of the law, "premised on an erroneous notion that the statute is neutral on the question whether Title X funds may be used to encourage or promote abortion as a method of family planning, and violative of federal healthcare conscience statutes."

There are four key points to the new regulation:

  1. Eliminates funding to abortion programs
  2. Cracks down on crimes related to abortions such as rape, incest, human trafficking, etc.
  3. Provides free or low-cost family planning services for women unable to get employer-sponsored insurance due to employers’ religious or moral beliefs.
  4. Prevents politicians and lobbyists from receiving funding.

This new proposed regulation and the new appointee to back it up have been highly productive and incredibly welcomed moves by President Trump.
