Just weeks after his proclamation declaring January 22nd, 2020 National Sanctity of Human Life Day and delivering his historic speech as the first President to attend the annual March for Life, where many supporters carried signs that read “Most Pro-Life President. Ever,” President Trump reiterated his support for human rights, equality, and healthcare in his powerful State of the Union speech, in which he honored parents and children, and highlighted his administration’s policies which support liberties and families:
“Three years ago, we launched the great American comeback. Our families are thriving. Our values are renewed. Our agenda is relentlessly pro-worker, pro-family, pro-growth, and, most of all, pro-American. We are advancing with unbridled optimism and lifting our citizens of every race, color, religion and creed very, very high.”
The President’s honored guests included a mother and her child, who had survived being born at just 21 weeks:
“America is constantly achieving new medical breakthroughs. In 2017, doctors at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City delivered one of the earliest premature babies ever to survive. Born at just 21 weeks and 6 days, and weighing less than a pound, Ellie Schneider was a born fighter. Through the skill of her doctors and the prayers of her parents, little Ellie kept on winning the battle of life. Today, Ellie is a strong, healthy two-year-old girl sitting with her amazing mother Robin in the Gallery. Ellie and Robin, we are glad to have you with us tonight.
Ellie reminds us that every child is a miracle of life. And thanks to modern medical wonders, 50 percent of very premature babies delivered at the hospital where Ellie was born now survive. It’s an incredible thing.
Our goal should be to ensure that every baby has the best chance to thrive and grow just like Ellie. That is why I’m asking Congress to provide an additional $50 million to fund neonatal research for America’s youngest patients. That is why I’m also calling upon members of Congress here tonight to pass legislation finally banning the late-term abortion of babies. Whether we are Republican, Democrat, or independent, surely we must all agree that every human life is a sacred gift from God.”
In fact, 60% of premature babies born at 22 weeks survive if given healthcare, but tragically, 75% receive none. House Democrats have repeatedly blocked a congressional vote to protect babies born alive after botched abortions. Democrat lawmakers have even passed horrific laws which not only repeal health and safety standards for women, but also undo requirements for physicians to be present during risky late-term abortions in case babies are born alive, and anesthesia for babies who feel excruciating pain. Recent studies show babies feel pain in the first trimester, as early as 12 weeks. Planned Parenthood brutally dismembers babies at viable ages when they may survive outside the womb, covers up harm to women, and deliberately alters abortion procedures, unlawfully without informing patients and increasing risks to mothers, and not administering digoxin, which would stop babies’ hearts, in order to deliver live babies to harvest their organs for more lucrative profit.
Sadly, most late-term abortions are elective, performed on healthy mothers and babies. Rather than provide safe healthcare to women who do have health complications, the abortion industry exploits that small percentage of women with high-risk pregnancies to manipulatively claim “medical necessity” to push unrestricted abortion and increase profits via abortions which endanger women and unnecessarily kill babies inhumanely, despite less than 10% of Americans supporting unrestricted abortion. Later abortions actually taken longer than a C-section, increasing risks to mothers and needlessly destroying children. In cases with medical risk, the baby can be delivered early, and both patients, mother and child, can and should be given safe healthcare and support.
Research concludes women who abort due to “fetal malformation” suffer a “traumatic event” that “entails the risk of severe and complicated grieving,” including “significantly more despair, avoidance, and depression than women who continued the pregnancy.” In fact, 65% of post-abortive women suffer from PTSD, and over 70% feel pressured and are not fully informed nor counseled about alternatives. Further, many fetal patients have treatable conditions, are misdiagnosed, born healthy, or can even remarkably self-correct abnormalities in the womb. There is also vast availability of prenatal services to support parents with children diagnosed with disabilities or terminal conditions. However, parents are often discouraged and pressured to hastily abort, lacking the time to access more accurate information, resources, and support.
Even with terminal diagnoses, parents are comforted by cherished time with their babies, and perinatal hospice services provide safe, compassionate care with dignity. Discrimination against vulnerable lives with disabilities is among the world’s worst human rights abuses. Real progressive policies would uphold equality and cultivate a culture that protects the most vulnerable.
President Trump promised to veto any legislation that “weakens protections for human life,” and asked Congress to pass legislation, which he will sign, prohibiting abortions once babies feel pain. He also condemned discriminatory abortions, which kill minorities, females, and babies with disabilities. Further, the President’s administration supports the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act and adoption and foster care organizations, protects the Constitutional First Amendment rights of healthcare workers and charities, and confirmed two Supreme Court Justices and nearly 200 federal judges “to uphold our founding documents and apply the Constitution as written.” President Trump also supports pro-life Senators’ efforts to make the Hyde Amendment permanent, which saves millions of lives and bans taxpayer funding of abortion in spending bills, consistent with the will of the majority of Americans.
Overwhelming majorities of Americans support strict restrictions, increasing health and safety standards, and oppose taxpayer funding, but the legally flawed Roe v. Wade decision hinders the will of constituents being reflected in current abortion laws, which have not evolved to keep up with tremendous medical advancements since the 1970s.
While Democrats support increasingly extreme abortion laws that weaken health and safety protections, and exclude the more than 30% of pro-life supporters in their own party, the pro-life movement is bipartisan, welcoming courageous supporters from all walks of life, and supports legislation that protects health and equality. Over 200 pro-life legislators submitted an amicus brief imploring the Supreme Court to overturn the faulty Roe decision, rightly returning abortion laws to the States. Pro-life Democrat Senator Katrina Jackson authored the law which will be reviewed by the Court this spring, which protects human rights and women’s health. The legal brief includes documented evidence of abortion clinics’ “poor safety records, inadequate credentialing practices, and efforts to undermine health and safety regulations designed to protect women.” The clinics have a long history of “medical malpractice, significant health and safety violations,” and “covering up sexual abuse of young girls.”
There is a “legal duty to protect the public from dangerous behavior,” but “the abortion business hides illegal activity behind the court system.” The case also seeks to include the testimonies of over 2,600 women who suffered severe harm to their physical and mental health caused by abortion procedures. The pro-life cause is important enough to transcend partisan politics and has been referred to as “the least single issue vote…. because you are voting for justice, human rights, women, children, against violence, and so much more.”
President Trump has recognized the pro-life community is “led by strong women, amazing faith leaders, and brave students who carry on the legacy of pioneers before us who fought to raise the conscience of our nation and uphold the rights of our citizens. You embrace mothers with care and compassion. You are powered by prayer and motivated by pure, unselfish love. You stand for life each and every day. You provide housing, education, jobs and medical care to the women that you serve. You find loving families for children in need of a forever home. You host baby showers for expecting moms. You make it your life’s mission to spread God’s grace. And we are fighting for those who have no voice. Every person is worth protecting. Together, we must protect, cherish, and defend the dignity and the sanctity of every human life.”
President Trump declared, “Every human life has value,” and his new pro-life video states, “We know that life is the greatest miracle of all. Under my administration, we will always defend the very first right in the Declaration of Independence, and that is the right to life. Let us work together to build a culture that cherishes innocent life.”
The President also explained he fights for the cause since far-left policies have become more extreme, including infanticide, and that Constitutional liberties and the principles for which millions of incredible pro-life people stand are “under siege.”
Democrats support the deceptive “Equal Rights Act,” which is actually anti equal rights, and contrary to majorities that support abortion restrictions and oppose taxpayer funding. In fact, the ERA, “the ultimate legislative wolf in sheep’s clothing,” erodes protections for women, children, and minorities, and forces taxpayer-funded unrestricted abortions that kill minorities, females, disabled, and live babies. By contrast, under President Trump, Obamacare’s hidden abortion surcharge was repealed, and Health and Human Services ended contracts with research that abused taxpayer funding and “uses the bodies of babies brutally killed in late-term abortions,” instead committing to “investing in cutting-edge science that doesn’t rely on the destruction of innocent lives.”
Further, President Trump’s administration funds more safe, ethical Federally Qualified Health Centers that outnumber Planned Parenthood 20 to 1 and provide more healthcare services, giving women more choices. The President’s Protect Life Rule disentangled abortion from real healthcare and family planning, increasing Title X funding to $400 million, while closing the loophole Planned Parenthood used to funnel taxpayer millions to abortion and Democrats, since promoting abortion with taxpayer funds has never been allowed under Title X. Planned Parenthood again chose abortion over actual healthcare and had reduced its Title X services by 60%. Nearly 60% of patients who receive Title X services do not go to Planned Parenthood, as nearly 90% of Title X service providers are clinics other than Planned Parenthood.
President Trump also reauthorized a federal aviation bill which includes the Friendly Airports for Mothers Act, requiring airports to provide clean, private rooms with comfortable accommodations for nursing mothers’ needs and requires baby changing stations in both men and women’s restrooms to aid parents.
The President’s administration has also increased child care policies, helping working families, including extending subsidies to families after the birth or adoption of a child, and allowing parents to draw on future child tax credits to cover maternity leave.
In his State of the Union address, President Trump recounted, “As we support America’s moms and dads, I was recently proud to sign the law providing new parents in the federal work force paid family leave, serving as a model for the rest of the country. Now I call on the Congress to pass the bipartisan Advancing Support for Working Families Act, extending family leave to mothers and fathers all across our nation. Forty million American families have an average $2,200 extra thanks to our child tax credit. I’ve also overseen historic funding increases for high-quality child care, enabling 17 states to help more children, many of which have reduced or eliminated their waitlists altogether. And I sent Congress a plan with a vision to further expand access to high-quality child care, and urge you to act immediately.”
Pro-life laws in several states also aid families, allowing expectant parents to claim preborn babies as dependents, and providing child support for single pregnant women, helping them with healthcare and related expenses. Ironically, “feminist” abortion supporters oppose such beneficial laws and protections.
President Trump’s administration has enacted a number of healthcare reforms that further aid families. New plans have reduced costs up to 60% while improving quality and choice, and the President “signed an Executive Order requiring price transparency,” saving “families massive amounts of money for substantially better care.” While a socialist takeover burdens taxpayers and reduces patient rights, prioritizing profits over healthcare, and targeting the elderly and children or others with disabilities or chronic conditions, policies under the President’s administration protect the healthcare and human rights of all American patients.
Similarly, abortion laws repeal health and safety protections and dangerously loosen access to deadly abortion drugs, lacking proper development and storage via online by-mail transport. By contrast, pro-life laws and the President’s administration have furthered support for safe, FDA-approved medicines, giving patients more protection and choices. President Trump signed Right to Try, giving terminal patients access to ground breaking treatments, and his “administration is also taking on the big pharmaceutical companies,” has “approved a record number of affordable generic drugs, and medicines are being approved by the FDA at a faster clip than ever before… And last year, for the first time in 51 years, the cost of prescription drugs actually went down.”
Other policies under President Trump’s administration have indirectly advanced pro-life support of families and healthcare as well. While the abortion industry exploits financial and other vulnerabilities for profit, the economic boom under President Trump has lifted nearly 20 million people off welfare and food stamps, with 3.5 million joining the work force, and has achieved the lowest unemployment rates in history, especially for women, minorities, working class, and young Americans, the very groups targeted by abortion.
Over 9,000 previously neglected neighborhoods are experiencing investment and growth through Republicans’ tax cut, which includes “opportunity zones,” creating jobs and energy for deserving communities. President Trump’s honored SOTU guests included an Army veteran who overcame addiction and reunited with his family after gaining employment through a company that invested in such zones. With rising wages, and lower income workers benefiting from the biggest gains, more take-home pay, record jobs and stock market growth, even trade reform and relief from regulatory burden for business owners, the “blue collar boom,” in turn, also lifts financial burdens which are often cited as reasons for abortion, thus helping more women and families choose life.
Unlike the abortion industry’s destruction of families and exploitation of vulnerable women for profit, pro-life groups provide support for women’s safe healthcare, education, housing, counseling and other resources years after birth. Also supporting families, First Lady Melania Trump’s Be Best initiative provides “safe, healthy, supportive and drug-free” schools and “communities for the next generation.” President Trump’s administration also demonstrates “unyielding commitment” to “curbing the opioid epidemic,” and “launched ambitious new initiatives” to “improve care for Americans with disease” and “those struggling with mental health.” As abortion causes 65% more depression, six times higher suicide rates, substance abuse and other detrimental mental health consequences for both women and men, the President’s policies support the pro-life cause for helping those affected by abortion.
President Trump’s administration also supports school choice and the Education Freedom Scholarships and Opportunities Act, and achieved record, permanent funding for historically black colleges. His budget plan includes nationwide vocational and technical training, and his “administration is determined to give our citizens the opportunities they need regardless of age or background. Through our Pledge to American Workers, over 400 companies will also provide new jobs and education opportunities to almost 15 million Americans.” Such bolstered support for education, employment, and economic opportunities helps alleviate many factors exploited by the abortion industry to profit off vulnerable women and families.
The President’s support for veterans and reforms to VA healthcare also help the pro-life cause, as many women in the military are otherwise pressured to abort, perpetuating the abortion industry’s misogynistic lie that women cannot succeed in their careers unless they kill their children. Consequences of abortion actually harm careers, due to the subsequent physical and mental health complications.
Further, abortion activists push for decreased safeguards despite increased risks, and enable misogyny and even violence. While pro-life laws increase health and safety, President Trump’s Title X rules also enforce compliance with laws that prevent Planned Parenthood and other abortion clinics from covering up sexual abuse. Even the President’s support for second amendment rights protect women’s rights to defend themselves, unlike abortion advocates who claim to support women’s rights but actually defend policies that make women less safe. Abortion also covers up rape, and women who will not consent to taking the abortion pill are unknowingly drugged, forced at gunpoint or by other threats of violence, attacked, or even killed. New York Democrats appallingly called it an “achievement” when they repealed protections for women whose preborn babies are killed by domestic violence.
Disturbingly, over 60% of abortions involve coercion, and widespread chemical abortion access further enables abusers and traffickers. House Democrats alarmingly supported a bill, deceptively titled the New Way Forward Act, that even imports previously deported violent felon criminal illegals, rapists and traffickers at the expense of taxpayers.
Planned Parenthood has also been exposed for failing to report statutory rape and child sex trafficking, even advising pimps and traffickers to pose as guardians to obtain abortions for underage sex workers and evade parental consent laws. Planned Parenthood was also exposed for grooming minors for profitable abortions, encouraging underage teens to try dangerous sexual practices and emulate pornography, causing young girls to be severely injured, and further fueling trafficking and the abortion industry, addiction, and other harm to their physical and mental health.
By contrast, pro-life laws uphold parental consent laws and protect children from abuse. A new documentary, Blind Eyes Opened, exposes the abortion industry’s enabling of sex abuse and trafficking. “88% of women who are sex-trafficked seek medical treatment,” with approximately 30% going to Planned Parenthood, but abortion clinics routinely cover up the abuse, returning victims to abusers. It is long overdue those who claim to support women, but actually support abortion’s enabling of abuse, to stop protecting abusers and instead truly protect women and children, as pro-life policies do.
Nearly 5 million people are sexually exploited worldwide, including over 1 million children. Open border policies also cause surges in rape and trafficking, leaving women and children vulnerable to sexual assault and prostitution. Unaccompanied children are repeatedly smuggled with strangers to pose as family units who often abuse them, and brutal cartels and gangs recruit vulnerable minors. A staunch Planned Parenthood supporter, President Obama even placed migrant children with traffickers, and DACA recipients were approved despite rape, murder, and sex crimes, and have been busted for child pornography and selling children. By contrast, President Trump signed an Executive Order targeting child exploitation and designated a new White House position to combat human trafficking. Under President Trump’s administration, border security reforms increase protections for women and children, and ICE has achieved record high trafficking arrests.
The President cited remarkable statistics in his State of the Union address, “In the last three years, ICE has arrested over 5,000 wicked human traffickers. And I have signed nine pieces of legislation to stamp out the menace of human trafficking, domestically and all around the globe. My administration has undertaken an unprecedented effort to secure the southern border of the United States. As a result of our unprecedented efforts, illegal crossings are down 75 percent since May, dropping eight straight months in a row. Over the last 24 months, [border agents] seized more than 200,000 pounds of poisonous narcotics, arrested more than 3,000 human smugglers, and rescued more than 2,000 migrants.”
President Trump has also defended human rights worldwide. Even defeating terrorists helps protect minorities, women and children otherwise abused by such regimes. His administration’s UN reforms resist leftist globalist policies that push abortion, eugenics and bigoted population control. Abortion is the greatest human rights abuse of our time. Half the world’s deaths in 2019 were caused by abortion, the leading cause of death worldwide, killing over 40 million annually, disproportionately minorities, females, and those with disabilities. During his first week in office, President Trump reinstated the Mexico City Policy, which prohibits international aid organizations that receive taxpayer funds from promoting abortion, thus hindering global policies that promote bigoted eugenics or population control and discriminatory abortions, while maintaining aid used for ethical family planning.
President Trump concluded his State of the Union address, “This is our glorious and magnificent inheritance. We are Americans. We are pioneers, and we changed history forever by embracing the eternal truth that everyone is made equal by the hand of Almighty God. America is the place where anyone can rise. And here, on this land, on this soil, on this continent, the most incredible dreams come true. We look at tomorrow and see unlimited frontiers just waiting to be explored. Our brightest discoveries are not yet known. Our most thrilling stories are not yet told. Our spirit is still young, the sun is still rising, God’s grace is still shining, and, my fellow Americans, the best is yet to come. Thank you. God bless you. And God bless America.”
Only by protecting life and liberty, equality, and human rights can such dreams be realized, and the evolved state of our Union be preserved.
