On September 3, 2020, President Trump issued a letter to pro-life leaders and activists pledging to fully defund the abortion industry, namely Planned Parenthood, of taxpayer dollars if he is reelected in November. In addition to his pledge to defund the abortion industry, President Trump guaranteed he will continue to fill the Supreme Court and lower federal courts with Justices and judges who will “not legislate an abortion agenda from the bench.” President Trump also stated he will sign the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, and the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act into law.

The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act makes it a crime for any person to perform or attempt to perform an abortion if the estimated gestational age of the baby is 20 weeks or more. Any violator of the law is subject to a fine, up to five years in prison, or both.

The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act prohibits the use of federal funds for abortions or health care coverage that covers abortions. Abortions cannot be obtained in federal facilities or performed by federal employees.

The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act requires practitioners who are present when a baby is born-alive following an abortion attempt to “exercise the same degree of professional skill, care, and diligence to preserve the life and health of the child as a reasonably diligent and conscientious health care practitioner would render to any other child born alive at the same gestational age; and following the exercise of skill, care, and diligence required…, ensure that the child born alive is immediately transported and admitted to a hospital.” If a person kills or attempts to kill a baby born alive, that person is subject to prosecution for murder.

President Trump also highlighted his Administration’s accomplishments for the pro-life community: confirming Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, confirming over 200 lower court judges, enacting a policy that prevents tax dollars from funding the international abortion industry, fighting efforts at the United Nations to make abortion an international right, stopping taxpayer funding of the abortion industry, fighting for the Little Sisters of the Poor, fighting against forcing medical professionals from participating in abortions, ending taxpayer funding for medical research using aborted baby body parts, and addressing the March for Life and Susan B. Anthony List Campaign for Life Gala in person.

In the letter, President Trump pointed out Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ extreme views on abortion: abortion on-demand, leaving babies to die when a baby is born-alive following an abortion attempt, and support of taxpayer funding of abortion.

President Trump believes, if reelected, his Administration will be champions for the unborn and their mothers.
