A Republican businessman running for Governor, Kevin Stitt, has made a campaign promise to appoint pro-life justices to the Oklahoma Supreme Court.
On a forum aired on KWEY radio in Weatherford, Oklahoma, Stitt stated,
“We don’t even have a pro-life Oklahoma Supreme Court. So as Governor, I will make sure we get pro-life justices on the Oklahoma Supreme Court and then I’ll sign every piece of legislation that hits my desk.”
It is true that the entire Oklahoma Supreme Court has a pro-abortion slant. In October of 2016, the Supreme Court unanimously ruled a major abortion restriction as unconstitutional. Later in December, the Supreme Court ruled against another abortion restriction.
Thankfully, all nine Republican candidates for Governor have taken strong stances in opposition to abortion. When Oklahoma Auditor and Inspector Gary Jones was asked if he would do the same as Stitt he responded, “Same, I’ll do that.” He later added that abortion laws are ultimately sending a message to the U.S. Supreme Court. Pastor Dan Fisher has gone as far as calling for a complete termination of abortion in Oklahoma.
These are just a few of the strong pro-life messages from well-established Republican candidates in Oklahoma. We will have to wait and see who will carry out the pro-life agenda after the primary election on June 26th.
