How did we get here? Where are we headed? Can we come together to end abortion, an issue which has divided us for 50 years?

These are some of the questions Benjamin Watson seeks to answer in his new documentary: Divided Hearts of America. Watson, a former NFL tight-end, and his wife, Kirsten, produced Divided Hearts of America, a movie centered around “… unveil[ing] the truth about abortion, the laws, the history and where our country is headed.”

The documentary attacks abortion from all angles. Watson explores the history behind abortion; different abortion laws in the United States; the question of quality of life and personhood; the science behind what abortion really is; the racist eugenics of Margaret Sanger and Planned Parenthood; and how abortion affects both mothers and fathers.

Watson conducts over thirty interviews with people on both sides of the political and ideological spectrums, asking questions like, “when does a person get rights?” and, “when is a person a person?” He sits down with Americans like Dr. Ben Carson, Alveda King, and Louisiana State Senator Katrina Jackson who each give a unique perspective on issues surrounding abortion. Watson interviews an abortion survivor with an extremely moving story, as well as a man whose life was changed by adoption. Additionally, an obstetrician-gynecologist graphically depicts the methods of abortion depending on a baby’s gestational age.

Divided Hearts of America is informative and powerful. It is heart-wrenching, but extremely important for our society to see. It shows science, emotion, truth, and the well-being of the mother, father, and baby are all on the side of those who defend and support life from conception.

This documentary is a must-watch for those seeking to understand the history of abortion and the practical and philosophical questions surrounding the abortion debate. It truly may sway hearts and minds of those who believe that abortion should be legal.
