Colin Kaepernick may make headlines due to his political efforts, but do not expect to see him fighting for the pro-life movement anytime soon.
Despite being adopted, Kaepernick has taken an unexpected stance on abortion, donating $25,000 to a pro-abortion group.
In an Instagram post, Kaepernick revealed his 2017 charitable donations and among the bunch was the Center for Reproductive Rights, a legal advocacy group which fights for abortion access.
In fact, the Center of Reproductive Rights has contributed to a report planning to “increase the supply of and demand for high-quality contraceptive and abortion services.” The organization has also played a key role in fighting against protective measures. One such restriction is the requirement for abortion clinics to hold hospital admitting privileges, a safe-guard which protects women by allowing patients who suffer abortion-related complications be rushed to the emergency room.
Kaepernick’s donation was a shock to much of the pro-life movement, considering his own mother rejected abortion at 19, placing him for adoption.
Kaepernick has been quite open regarding the fact he was adopted by Rick and Teresa Kaepernick at five weeks old and even called his adoption the “biggest blessing” of his “entire life.” It is a shame he does not recognize donations to pro-abortion groups are counterproductive to life-affirming decisions such as adoption and quality care.
We hope one day Kaepernick is as dedicated to giving children the same chance he was afforded as he is to his other political efforts.
