The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (H.R. 962) is a very important bill which needs to be passed. This federal law would protect newborns who survive an abortion by requiring admittance to a hospital and same level of care as an infant naturally born at the same gestational age. Additionally, the bill requires reporting of violations and enacts penalties for any provider who violates the law. It also allows mothers to sue for damages due to violations of the law. This bill differs from the current Born-Alive Infants Protection Act passed in 2002, which has no care requirements, reporting requirements, penalties for violation, or provision for a woman to sue for damages.
House Representative Nancy Pelosi is refusing to see this bill for the House to vote. So far 204 signatures have been added to the discharge petition and there only needs to be 14 more for it to be voted on. If this act gets 218 signatures the House must open the floor and vote on it. Click here to see your state representatives and whether they have signed it yet or not and email, call, or write them to sign it. This is only a petition to discharge the bill to the House floor for a vote, not a vote for or against the Act itself. Only 14 more signatures are needed! Do this for all the newborns born alive after an abortion who need medical care immediately. Fight for them!
